Supported File Types

Step 1: Prepare Your File (Google Slides, Keynote, and Legacy .ppt Users Only)
PowerPoint users with a .pptx file can skip straight to Step 2. Your file is already in the correct format.
Google Slides: Export as .pptx or PDF
- Open your presentation in Google Slides.
- Click File, then Download.
- Choose Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx). This preserves the most text content for quiz generation and is the recommended choice. PDF also works.
- Save the downloaded file to a location you can find easily.
Keynote: Export as .pptx or PDF
- Open your presentation in Keynote.
- Click File, then Export To.
- Select PowerPoint or PDF.
- Save the exported file to your computer.
Legacy .ppt Files: Resave as .pptx
Older PowerPoint files saved in the .ppt format are not supported. Open the file in PowerPoint or Google Slides, then use File → Save As and select the .pptx format.
Why .pptx over PDF for Google Slides? The
.pptxexport preserves more text content than the PDF export in most cases. Both formats work. Choose whichever fits your workflow.
Step 2: Open the QuizMagic Dashboard
- Go to quizmagic.io and sign in. New users get a premium trial with no credit card required.
- In the Dashboard, choose Upload File as your source.
Step 3: Upload Your Slide Deck
Click the upload area or drag your .pptx or PDF file into it. A green confirmation appears when the file loads. If you selected the wrong file, remove it and upload the correct one before proceeding.

What the PPT to Quiz Generator Reads from Your Deck
QuizMagic extracts the text content of your .pptx file: slide titles, bullet points, and all speaker-visible text on each slide. Text-rich slides produce more specific, curriculum-aligned questions. Slides that rely primarily on images give the AI less to work from.
When Critical Information Is Inside an Image
If key content lives only inside a labeled diagram, scanned chart, or screenshot of text on your slides, it is not visible to the AI through the .pptx file alone. To include that content, add a PDF or image version of it as an additional file in the same upload. QuizMagic reads all uploaded files together.
Speaker Notes
QuizMagic currently focuses on visible slide content. Speaker notes are not extracted from .pptx uploads. If your speaker notes contain material students need to be assessed on, copy it into the slide body before uploading, or upload your notes as a separate PDF alongside the deck.

Number of Questions
Choose anywhere from a quick 5-question comprehension check to a full-length exam. For a single lecture deck, 10 questions is a reliable starting point. For multi-deck uploads covering several weeks of content, increase the count so the AI spreads coverage across all material.
Question Type
Select the format that fits your assessment purpose:

Difficulty and Cognitive Level
QuizMagic uses a blended Bloom’s Taxonomy and SOLO framework to control the depth of thinking each question demands. Selecting Application or Analysis instead of Recall produces questions that require students to use the knowledge from your slides rather than simply recognize it. Output Language
Generate questions in English or choose from more than 30 supported languages. QuizMagic detects the language of your source material automatically, or you can specify a different output language explicitly.
Step 5: Generate and Review
Click Generate Quiz. Most quizzes from a standard lecture deck are ready in 20 to 60 seconds, depending on the deck’s length and content density.
When the questions appear in the editor, take 30 seconds to review them before saving. A quick review pass catches occasional awkward phrasing and significantly improves the student experience.
What to Check During Review
Coverage distribution. Confirm that questions span the full deck rather than clustering around one section. If coverage is uneven, delete over-represented questions and add your own for under-represented sections using the Add Question button.
Answer accuracy. Check that each correct answer is genuinely correct. The AI generates from your actual slide content, so accuracy is generally high, but a quick scan of each answer key before sharing is good practice.
Cognitive level match. If you selected a specific Bloom’s level, verify that the question stems reflect it. An Application-level question should present a scenario requiring the student to use a concept, not simply name it.
You can edit any question inline, regenerate ones you do not like, or delete items entirely. When satisfied, proceed to save and share.

Decks that rely primarily on images, single keywords, or decorative layouts give the AI less content to work from, and questions from these decks tend to be more generic. If you need to generate a quiz from an image, consider uploading a PDF of your accompanying lecture notes at the same time. The AI reads both files together, which produces more specific, curriculum-aligned questions.
Combine Related Decks for Comprehensive Assessments
Uploading several weeks of lecture decks in a single run, for example, Week 1 through Week 4, produces a stronger cumulative review quiz than generating from each deck separately. The AI draws questions from the full combined content, which suits end-of-unit and revision assessments well.
Use the Additional Notes Field for Context
Specifying the subject, grade level, and topic in the Additional Notes field, for example, “Year 11 Biology, Chapter 5 Cell Division”, helps the AI frame questions with the right vocabulary and depth for your audience.

The File Was Rejected on Upload
Confirm the file is in a supported format (.pptx or PDF). Legacy .ppt files must be resaved as .pptx first. Also, confirm the file is under 10 MB, and the combined total of all files is under 20 MB.
Questions Are Too Generic or Not Tied to the Lesson
This happens when slides contain mostly images or minimal text. To resolve this, simply add your lecture notes file to the same upload. If your notes are in PDF, you need to generate a quiz from a PDF alongside your deck. Also, use the Additional Notes field to specify the subject, grade level, and topic to give the AI a clearer context.
Critical Diagram Content Is Not Reflected in the Questions
QuizMagic reads text content from .pptx files. Labeled diagrams and charts that exist only as images inside slides do not contribute to question generation. Add a PDF or image version of that diagram as an additional file in the same upload.
