Sharing a quiz without a student login means anyone with your link can take the quiz instantly. No account creation, no sign-up form, no password. In QuizMagic, this is called Simple Sharing. You generate a link or QR code, distribute it however you like, and the quiz stays open to anyone until you decide to turn it off.
This guide explains exactly how Simple Sharing works, how to set it up, when to use it, and how it differs from Smart Sharing, which is QuizMagic’s tracked sharing mode for graded assessments.
Available on all plans. Simple Sharing is available to every QuizMagic user, Free and Premium, with no session limits. See Free vs Premium Plan: Full Comparison for a breakdown of what each plan includes.
What Is Simple Sharing?
Simple Sharing generates a public link and QR code that anyone can use to take your quiz without logging in, creating an account, or entering any personal information. It is the fastest way to share a quiz without a student login because there is no configuration required. You enable it, copy the link, and you are done.
Simple Sharing has three defining characteristics that set it apart from Smart Sharing.
It is fully anonymous. No names, no emails, no student IDs. QuizMagic does not collect any identifying information from people who take a Simple Sharing quiz. If you need to know who took the quiz and how they scored, Smart Sharing is the right tool instead.
It allows unlimited attempts. Anyone with the link can take the quiz as many times as they want. There is no attempt limit and no browser fingerprinting to block repeat sessions. The same person can retake the quiz on the same device without any restriction.
It stays open until you disable it. A Simple Sharing link does not expire on a set date or close after a session ends. The quiz remains accessible to anyone with the link until you manually turn Simple Sharing off. When you disable it, the link immediately stops working.
Simple Sharing vs Smart Sharing
Understanding the difference between the two sharing modes helps you choose the right one for your situation.

| Student name collected | No, fully anonymous | Yes |
| Score tracked per student | No | Yes |

Use Simple Sharing when you want to share a quiz without student login and without collecting any data, for practice quizzes, self-study, public knowledge checks, or any situation where anonymous access is the goal.
Use Smart Sharing when you need to identify who took the quiz, track individual scores, enforce attempt limits, or activate anti-cheating monitoring. Smart Sharing still does not require students to have a QuizMagic account, but it does collect a name before the quiz begins.
When to Use Simple Sharing
Simple Sharing is particularly well-suited to situations where open, anonymous access is more important than tracked results.
Self-study and independent practice
Students who want to test themselves on a topic before an exam do not need their attempt recorded. Share a practice quiz via Simple Sharing so students can retake it as many times as they want without any friction or data collection. Each retake is a fresh attempt with no history carried forward.
Quick classroom warm-ups
Display the QR code on your classroom projector at the start of a lesson. Students scan it, answer five questions, and the warm-up is complete. Because Simple Sharing collects no data, there is nothing to review afterward. The value is entirely in the activity itself, not the results.
Public knowledge checks and community events
A quiz attached to a social media post, a community website, or a conference handout benefits from frictionless access. Anyone who clicks the link or scans the code takes the quiz immediately with no barrier.
Content creator engagement
Teachers and educators who create public educational content can attach Simple Sharing quizzes to YouTube videos, blog posts, or newsletters. Viewers engage with the content interactively without needing an account.
Low-stakes exploration before committing to Smart Sharing
If you are new to QuizMagic and want to see how the quiz experience looks and feels for students before running a tracked session, enable Simple Sharing first. Take the quiz yourself through the link to confirm everything looks right, then switch to Smart Sharing when you are ready to run the graded session.
Step 1: Open Your Quiz and Enable Simple Sharing
Sign in to QuizMagic and navigate to Saved Quizzes from your dashboard. Locate the quiz you want to share and click the Share button on its quiz card. A sharing options dialog opens.
Select Simple Sharing (default tab). From there, turn on the Enable Simple Sharing toggle. QuizMagic immediately generates a unique public link and QR code for your quiz. No further configuration is required — Simple Sharing has no session settings to configure.
If you have not yet created a quiz, start with the QuizMagic Quick Start Guide. Generate and save a quiz first, then return here to share it.
Step 2: Copy the Link or Download the QR Code
Once Simple Sharing is enabled, you have two distribution options.
Share the link
Click Copy Link to copy the full URL to your clipboard. Paste it into any channel where your audience is: an email, a class messaging group, a WhatsApp message, your school’s LMS, a blog post, or a social media post. Anyone who clicks the link opens the quiz immediately without any login prompt.
Use the QR code
Click Download QR Code to save the QR code image as a PNG file. Use it in any of the following ways.
- Display it on your classroom projector so students can scan it with their phones
- Print it on a handout or worksheet alongside the related content
- Include it in a slide deck presentation
- Post it on a classroom door or bulletin board for self-directed review
Students with any modern smartphone camera can scan the QR code and open the quiz in under five seconds.
Step 3: Distribute to Your Audience
With the link or QR code ready, distribute it however suits your context. There is no deadline to worry about and no session to open or close before students arrive. The quiz is live from the moment Simple Sharing is enabled.
Because Simple Sharing allows unlimited retakes, you do not need to coordinate timing. Students who miss the class session can take the quiz later. Students who want to practice a second time can retake it without any restriction. The quiz stays accessible until you disable it.
Step 4: Disable Simple Sharing When You Are Done
Simple Sharing does not expire automatically. When you no longer want the quiz to be publicly accessible, return to the quiz’s Share settings and turn Simple Sharing off. The link and QR code stop working immediately. Anyone who tries to open the link after you disable it sees a message indicating the quiz is no longer available.
This gives you direct control over the access window. You can enable Simple Sharing for a week, disable it before exams, and re-enable it again for the next revision period. All without creating new links each time.
Important: Disabling Simple Sharing does not delete any data, because Simple Sharing does not collect any data. Your quiz remains in Saved Quizzes exactly as it was. Only the public link becomes inactive.
What Students Experience With Simple Sharing
When a student opens a Simple Sharing link, they land directly on the quiz. There is no name field, no email prompt, and no login screen. The quiz opens immediately, and the student begins answering.
After submitting, the student sees their score on the results screen. Because Simple Sharing is anonymous, this score is visible only to the student on their screen in that moment. It does not appear in any teacher dashboard, and QuizMagic does not store it.
What auto-grading covers in Simple Sharing
| Question type | Graded automatically? |
|---|---|
| Multiple Choice | Yes, instant score on submission |
| True/False | Yes, instant score on submission |
| Fill in the Blanks | Yes, with flexible matching for spelling variations |
| Short Answer | Not available, Short Answer grading requires Smart Sharing and a Premium subscription |
| Essay | Not available. Short Answer grading requires Smart Sharing and a Premium subscription |
Because Simple Sharing does not log results, the student’s score is their own to see in the moment. There is no teacher-facing record to review.
Moving From Simple Sharing to Smart Sharing
When you are ready to run a tracked version of the same quiz, with names collected, scores recorded, and analytics available, switch from Simple Sharing to Smart Sharing. You do not need to create a new quiz. Both sharing modes work from the same saved quiz simultaneously.
Disabling Simple Sharing and enabling Smart Sharing on the same quiz gives you a clean transition: the practice period is over, and the graded session begins. Smart Sharing requires a session name and configuration, but the quiz content remains identical.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can students take the quiz as many times as they want with Simple Sharing?
Yes. Simple Sharing places no limit on attempts. The same student can take the quiz multiple times from the same device, and each attempt is fully independent. There is no record of previous attempts and no way to block retakes in Simple Sharing mode.
Does Simple Sharing collect any student data?
No. Simple Sharing is fully anonymous. QuizMagic does not collect names, email addresses, scores, or any other information from students who take a quiz through a Simple Sharing link. If you need to collect student names and track scores, use Smart Sharing instead.
When does a Simple Sharing link expire?
A Simple Sharing link does not expire on its own. It stays active until you manually disable Simple Sharing from the quiz’s Share settings. When you disable it, the link and QR code immediately stop working.
Can I use Simple Sharing and Smart Sharing at the same time for the same quiz?
Yes. Both sharing modes can be active on the same quiz simultaneously. Students who access the quiz through the Simple Sharing link experience the anonymous version. Students who access it through a Smart Sharing session link are prompted to enter their name and take the tracked version.
Does Simple Sharing work on mobile devices?
Yes. The quiz opens in any modern mobile browser. Students on iPhone, Android, or any tablet device can take the quiz without installing an app or creating an account. The QR code method is particularly effective for mobile-first audiences because scanning is faster than typing a URL.
Is Simple Sharing available on the Free plan?
Yes. Simple Sharing is available on all plans with no session or usage limits. Free users can enable Simple Sharing on any of their saved quizzes at no cost.
Can I re-enable Simple Sharing after disabling it?
Yes. You can toggle Simple Sharing on and off as many times as you need. The same link and QR code are restored each time you re-enable it, so you do not need to redistribute a new link to your audience.
